Liver-Related Research

Dr. Jurczak’s lab is interested in understanding how changes in hepatic mitochondrial metabolism contribute to the pathogenesis of obesity-associated liver diseases, such as NAFLD, NASH and hepatic insulin resistance. The lab is specifically interested in how loss of a mitochondrial quality control pathway called mitophagy in the obese, fatty liver may contribute to aberrant mitochondrial function and, in turn, disease. The lab specializes in using isotopic tracers to measure rates of hepatic and peripheral metabolism in vivo in transgenic mice.
