Liver-Related Work

The Laboratory for Synthetic Biology and Regenerative Medicine led by Dr. Ebrahimkhani combines synthetic biology and stem cell engineering to develop novel technologies and advance liver regenerative medicine. The lab uses genetic and epigenetic engineering to program how cells sense, process, and respond to their environment. This approach has led to the development of multicellular fetal and adult livers with endothelial and stellate cells. The ongoing studies are:
  1. Developing designer liver organoids from human iPSCs
  2. Using genetically engineered organoids for regenerative therapy and for modeling human liver disease in personalized fashion
  3. Using fetal liver organoid niche for hematopoiesis in vitro
  4. In vivo CRISPR systems to modulate liver response to injury, tissue repair and regeneration.
Dr. Ebrahimkhani’s lab has expertise in:
  • Organoid development
  • Genetic engineering
  • Human iPSC
  • Liver Chip technology
